DIY Paper Snowflake Tutorial

Image
Hello there! It's been a long time. I'd love to get back to posting more regularly, but I'm absorbed with many other creative pursuits (and other obligations) right now. I think I originally drafted this post two years ago but didn't manage to get pictures and get it ready during the holidays that year or last year. So at long last, here it is: I've been cutting paper snowflakes for about as long as I can remember. I remember when I was about six, and I was so disappointed that mine didn't come out as pretty as the ones my dad made. So he taught me a few tricks. Every Thanksgiving weekend, we all grab a ream of paper, some wastebaskets and scissors and go to town cutting snowflakes to decorate with. One of the biggest factors in how a snowflake turns out is the way it's folded. Many people use a four-pointed fold, which leaves you with a squareish result, like this:

Thankful Thursdays: A Snow Day

Image
Today I'm thankful for a snow day. We've already had one of the biggest snow storms I've ever seen this year, so I'm honestly not that excited that there's a few inches on the ground today. But it was really nice to have everyone's events cancelled. I had a fairly relaxing day, and I'm thankful for long conversations with my family, baking, knitting (I finished my last Etsy order for now, so I'm free to work on my own projects for a while!) and catching up on a few of our favorite TV shows. What are you thankful for today? Thankful Thursdays Link Up:

Winter Photoshoot

Image
A few weeks ago, we took advantage of (very) rare snowy day, pulled out our hardly-worn winter clothes and had an epic photoshoot. I finally had time to finish editing the pictures today. P.S. Thankful Thursdays will be back this week. December has been super crazy busy, so I haven't been very on top of posting. I finally got some pictures of this sweater I knitted last fall.

Thankful Thursdays: Warm Things

Image
Today I am thankful for all things warm . Where I live, it does not snow. Like, maybe once a year we get 2 inches of slushy stuff that's gone the next day. On Friday, we got 7+ inches and it's still on the ground. We've hit the lowest temperatures the town's seen since the 1970's. Since we have approximately one snowplow here, the roads haven't been great. A lot of places have been shut down, and people have been staying home as much as possible. (All of my classes have been cancelled, and since I work from home, cabin fever is setting in. I'm pretty sure next week's Thankful Thursdays topic will be "thankful to get out of the house.") Anyway, I HATE being cold. I'm fairly convinced I'm meant to live in a tropical climate. Being cold makes me tense and grumpy. So I am so thankful this week for our pellet stove. For socks. (Even though I hate wearing them.) For knitted scarves, legwarmers, hats, headbands, and gloves. For sweaters....
